About Us

Colfax Ave launched Characters of Colfax  in January 2017, showcasing the wonderful people who make Colfax, Colfax.  We know that it’s the people that make Denver’s main street the best place to have a cup of coffee, pint of beer, people watch, see a show, and connect with your community. We’re inclusive and we welcome everyone, from everywhere.

Meet Leah Charney

Leah’s poor mother went into labor during a hurricane and Leah hasn’t slowed down since. A born storyteller, she spoke in full sentences as a 9-month-old, was voted “Most Dramatic” in high school, and claims to be a lifelong Coloradan, though she was technically born in Texas (but after the hurricane).

Her words have been published online and in print for a wide range of publications, including Marie Claire, INSIDER, Colorado Life Magazine, and Fodor’s Travel. Leah’s ability to attract odd suitors — like the man who took her to buy a gun rack on a first (and last) date — earned her a monthly dating column in a now-defunct women’s magazine produced by the Boulder Daily Camera

She is passionate about Denver: its buildings, history, culture, and community. Leah also believes strongly in both the clarifying allure of the Oxford (or serial) comma and in the gritty magic of Colfax.
